Four Things Every Parent Should Know Before Choosing a Dance Studio
If most dance studios seem to have qualified, friendly teachers who have experience teaching children, along with a
big show at the end of the year, aren't they all pretty much the same? Does it really matter at which place you decide
to enroll?
In a word, yes! There are four main things that can make a huge difference in the quality of instruction your child
receives, the amount of extra work and hassles the parent must deal with, and the overall enjoyment and satisfaction
of being involved with a dance program. Here are the four things that every parent should consider before deciding on
a dance studio for their child.

What Kind of Dance is Taught?
At the Hudson Dance Academy, we specialize ih Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Abstract Modern, Hip Hop, and Musical Theatre. Each class is
tailored to a specific type of dance so the dancer can concentrate and get the most out of their lessons.

What is the Size of the Class?
If the dance class has fewer students in it each child will receive more personalized attention, learn more, and
have more fun. With younger students, it is easier for a teacher to maintain control over the class and make sure
each student understands the concepts and instructions. Our smaller class sizes ensure that no fundamental concepts
are being missed. A smaller class size also allows our teachers to make sure that students are not developing bad
habits or improper techniques.
The Hudson Dance Academy limits our classes to approximately ten students per class, with one instructor and an
assistant teacher.

What Are the Extras Required for the Year-End Recital?
Most studios put on a year-end recital in a professional theatre. Students who perform in the recital must have a
costume for their dance number. Some studios may require parents to sew their child's costume and the parent must
find their own seamstress to do the sewing. This can be inconvenient and frustrating for parents who are busy or
can't sew.
The Hudson Dance Academy uses our own professional seamstress to sew and make the costumes, so parents do not have to worry about any costume hassles.

Do I Know My Instructor?
In many studios, instructors don't take the time to get to know each student because the classes are too big and
the instructors don't have extra time for the dancers.
At the Hudson Dance Academy, the instuctor strives to know each student personally and spends time outside of the
classroom with parents and students, from participating in parades, going on field trips to see professional dance
performances, to the yearly competition team studio sleepover. At the Hudson Dance Academy, your child will feel like
they belong to a dance family.
